Sofia and Burgas Reach 20-Year Record in Property Sales

In the first quarter of 2025, the real estate markets in Sofia and Burgas reached their highest levels of activity in at least two decades, according to data from the Registry Agency. In Sofia, over 8,500 property transactions were completed—an increase of 17.7% compared to 2024—while Burgas recorded 1,837 deals, marking a 10.1% year-on-year rise. In both cities, more than 40% of property purchases were financed through mortgage loans.

On a national level, the number of transactions increased by 3%, surpassing 45,000, although still remaining below the levels seen in early 2022. Mortgage financing accounted for approximately 30% of all deals, with the number of home loans rising by 11%.

Growth was also observed in Plovdiv (+3.5%), Ruse (+9.6%), Stara Zagora (+11.2%), and Nessebar (+11%), while Varna experienced a slight decline (-2.1%). Among resort towns, the largest increases were seen in Tsarevo (+40.8%) and Chepelare (+19%), while Pomorie and Samokov recorded a decrease in activity.
