Bulgaria is expecting over two million international tourists for the coming winter season, Acting Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev told Nova TV. He noted that total foreign visits, including one-day and transit trips, could exceed 3.2 million.

Tourism has grown by around five percent this year, and Miloshev is optimistic that 2024 could set new records for the sector in Bulgaria. He pointed out a shift in the source of tourists, mainly due to the Ukraine war and Middle Eastern conflicts, with most visitors now coming from Romania, Poland, and the UK. Most foreign tourists in Bulgaria still come from neighboring countries.

Prof. Rumen Draganov, director of the Institute for Analysis and Assessment of the Information Environment in Tourism, highlighted that by September’s end, 10.7 million foreign nationals had visited Bulgaria, surpassing 2019 levels by 200,000. Draganov noted a rise in tourist activity and an expanded flight schedule at Sofia Airport compared to the same period in 2019. Miloshev added that the Balkans could market themselves as a single destination to attract overseas tourists, including those from the Far East.
